Helm Prairie

Located on the east edge of Carpentersville, this 70-acre unimproved site is designated as a Nature Preserve Buffer for the Helm Woods Nature Preserve. It holds the top of a small watershed directly north of the Prairie.

Helm Prairie was part of a large woodland/wetland complex before being cleared and tiled for farming during the early 1800's.

Purchased in 1997 for $1,192,864, Helm was the Township's very first open space purchase. It was given Nature Preserve status in 2003.

There are currently no trails on this site but future plans include a trail system and designated parking.
